The launch event of the 2017 Tunder World lunchtime Series exploring the 17th century world of composer Franz Tunder in his 350th anniversary year.
One of Tunder’s finest vocal works – the cantata Salve coelestis pater – is set alongside works by composers he inspired, directly or indirectly:
Tunder’s son-in-law was the great organist Dietrich Buxtehude. He was Tunder’s successor at the Marienkirche in Lübeck, and one of his pupils was Nicolaus Bruhns whose psalm setting Mein Herz ist bereit (My heart is steadfast) will also be performed providing a fascinating snapshot of how music changed and developed during this period.
